Archer has announced two acquisitions to support the advancement of its hybrid autonomous vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) military aircraft programs.
Following its December 2024 partnership with Anduril to co-develop defense aircraft and a $1.3 billion capital raise for defense and commercial projects, Archer is responding to increasing interest from allied defense programs globally.
The company acquired a patent portfolio and key personnel from Overair, a spin-off of Karem Aircraft, which focuses on fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft featuring high-efficiency tiltrotor designs. Archer also purchased composite manufacturing assets and a manufacturing facility of approximately 60,000 square feet from Mission Critical Composites, a specialized defense composites manufacturer based in Southern California.
“These acquisitions are part of our commitment—we’re working to accelerate our product development to meet our country’s needs,” said Adam Goldstein, Archer’s founder and CEO. He noted that advanced aviation leadership remains a priority at the national level.
The acquisitions come amid a Pentagon budget request that includes $13.4 billion allocated for autonomous military systems, reflecting continued government investment in these technologies.
By integrating composite fabrication capabilities internally, Archer aims to enhance its prototyping and development processes to better support its defense aerospace initiatives.
