Luxury car manufacturer Porsche has introduced the updated 2025 Taycan, boasting significant improvements in power, range, and charging speed. Among the highlights of the best-selling electric vehicle (EV) from the renowned performance brand is the integration of the latest iteration of in-car infotainment, labeled Apple CarPlay+.

While both Aston Martin and Porsche teased the new technology in the past year, details were scant. The anticipated Apple CarPlay+ was expected to offer seamless integration into the vehicle’s systems, ensuring a streamlined Apple experience and complete control of the car through a familiar interface. An initial review of the revamped Taycan by Autogefühl has shed light on the innovative solution.

Upon connecting an iPhone to the vehicle via the Porsche app, the CarPlay+ feature becomes accessible, albeit initially presented under a Porsche logo, which may cause some confusion. However, subsequent user experience proves to be satisfying.

Featuring a revamped screen layout, users gain access to all vehicle functions conveniently in one place. Tasks such as adjusting climate controls and ambient lighting are simplified, with everything accessible with a single touch on the screen. Noteworthy enhancements like Climate Modes offer effortless adjustments tailored to individual preferences, complemented by easily customizable programs.

Moreover, all information typically accessed on the iPhone is seamlessly displayed on the main infotainment screen. A notable addition is the Coffee App, guiding drivers to nearby coffee shops along their route. Enhanced navigation options include scenic routes and simplified access to nearby charging stations, while the vehicle keeps track of driving statistics such as acceleration and driving habits.

Apple Music integration is seamlessly integrated alongside radio controls on the main screen, eliminating the need to switch between multiple screens and applications. Although the CarPlay+ feature is currently confined to the main infotainment screen, promises are made for future updates enabling control of the instrument cluster, displaying essential information directly in the driver’s line of sight.

The introduction of CarPlay+ marks a significant advancement in vehicle-phone integration, offering drivers a familiar ecosystem without the need to adapt to new interfaces. Initial impressions suggest a user-friendly experience, with intuitive navigation and logical grouping of functions and applications – aspects often challenging for automakers to achieve.

While Porsche and Aston Martin are the initial adopters of Apple CarPlay+, other automakers’ plans remain undisclosed. However, with its promising performance thus far, it’s anticipated that more manufacturers will follow suit, recognizing the potential of CarPlay+ as a substantial improvement over current systems and a progressive step in the evolution of in-car technology.
