Amsted Automotive has announced the upcoming launch of its Multi-Speed Shift Technology, scheduled to debut in an electric vehicle (EV) in 2026. This technology aims to address the increasing consumer demand for improved efficiency, all-electric range, and performance in both electric and hybrid vehicles. By integrating One-Way-Clutch (OWC) functionality, the system is designed to optimize cost and enhance performance and efficiency in EV and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) drivetrains. It enables smooth and rapid shift transitions while simplifying the control mechanisms typically found in conventional technologies.
The Multi-Speed Shift Technology also incorporates Dynamic Controllable Clutch (DCC) technology, which has been successfully utilized in existing production EVs. This system is compatible with both parallel-axis and co-axial powertrain designs, including a version that eliminates friction clutches, which may lead to reduced drag and improved overall efficiency and sustainability.
Amsted Automotive’s One-Way Clutch presents various benefits over traditional dog-clutch systems, such as facilitating uninterrupted shifts and simplifying control systems. This technology is part of a broader initiative that reflects the company’s commitment to advancing efficiency solutions for electrified and hybrid propulsion systems.
In 2021, Amsted Automotive brought together various manufacturing entities, forming a comprehensive technology team aimed at enhancing its capabilities. The company operates 21 manufacturing facilities across North America, Europe, and Asia, producing over 100 million components and assemblies annually.
