Amplify Cell Technologies, a joint venture between Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Truck, and Paccar, has commenced the construction of a new battery cell factory for commercial vehicles in Marshall County, Mississippi.

The facility, announced last year and established in June, aims to pioneer the production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells, known for their durability and cost-efficiency in electric commercial vehicles.

Kel Kearns, CEO of Amplify, expressed enthusiasm at the groundbreaking ceremony, stating, “I am thrilled to be here with so many of our partners to break ground on this new battery cell manufacturing facility in Marshall County.” The facility, spanning a 500-hectare site, is projected to commence production in 2027, with an annual output target of 21 gigawatt hours (GWh).

The initiative is expected to create over 2,000 manufacturing jobs in the United States, underscoring a commitment to local production and leveraging US subsidies promoting domestic value creation in the transportation sector.

Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Truck, and Paccar are jointly investing between two to three billion dollars in the venture, each holding a 30% stake. EVE Energy, a specialist in LFP battery cell manufacturing, contributes its expertise as a technology partner with a ten percent share, enhancing Amplify’s capabilities in battery cell development and production.
