Amazon has officially reached a significant milestone in its transition to electric vehicles, incorporating 20,000 Rivian EDVs (electric delivery vans) into its fleet. This achievement marks one-fifth of the company’s goal to have 100,000 all-electric delivery vehicles on the road by 2030, as part of its Climate Pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
Since the first Rivian EDV hit the road in 2022, Amazon has expanded its fleet to cover locations nationwide, from Anaheim to Boston, and even to Europe, where more than 300 of the vans are now operating in Germany. By 2024, Amazon used these electric vans to deliver over one billion packages to customers in the U.S. alone. The EDVs are not only helping reduce carbon emissions but are also equipped with state-of-the-art technology to make deliveries more efficient and comfortable for drivers.
To support the growing fleet, Amazon has installed more than 24,000 chargers at over 150 delivery stations across the U.S., ensuring that charging infrastructure is readily available and range limitations are not an issue during delivery routes. The integration of Rivian EDVs into Amazon’s operations is a key part of the company’s broader efforts to promote sustainable logistics and reduce its environmental impact.
