Amazon has integrated over 15,000 electric delivery vans from Rivian into its U.S. fleet, part of a larger order of 100,000 placed nearly five years ago. The rollout has also begun in Europe, with initial deployments in Germany.
Since Amazon started using the Rivian electric vans in the U.S. in 2022, approximately 15,000 units have been delivered. In Europe, the process has been slower. Amazon had previously announced 300 Rivian electric vans for Germany, specifically targeting cities like Munich, Berlin, and Düsseldorf. However, the company has not provided an updated status on the rollout.
Amazon’s Rivian Electric Van Fleet Gets a Boost with Over 17,000 Installed Chargers
Amazon plans to invest over 1 billion euros in the next five years to further electrify and decarbonize its transport network across Europe. This investment will support the use of electric vans for last-mile deliveries and electric trucks.
“The investment is also intended to drive innovation across the industry and encourage more public charging infrastructure, which will help enable the broader transportation industry to more quickly reduce emissions,” Amazon stated. The company aims to achieve net-zero carbon by 2040 and has partnered with Rivian to put 100,000 electric delivery vehicles on the road by 2030.
The electric vans, developed in collaboration with Rivian, include features tailored to Amazon’s needs, such as enhanced driver visibility, safety assistants, ventilated seats, automatic door locking and unlocking, and an electrically operated bulkhead door that opens at delivery locations.

Beyond the Rivian vehicles, Amazon’s global fleet includes 15 other electric models, such as delivery vehicles, e-cargo bikes, and e-rickshaws. To support this extensive fleet, Amazon has installed more than 17,000 chargers at around 120 U.S. warehouses, making it the largest private operator of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the country. A German company, Siemens, has provided chargers for Amazon’s depot in Maple Valley, Washington, where 309 chargers supply the local Rivian delivery vans with electricity.
