Altilium, a clean technology group based in the UK, has launched Recell.store, an online platform aimed at facilitating the recycling of end-of-life electric vehicle (EV) batteries. This platform is designed to address the growing volume of used EV batteries and support a circular economy for critical battery minerals in the UK. Through Recell.store, businesses can register their used batteries for recycling or second-life applications and access collection services, which may help mitigate the environmental impact associated with battery disposal.
Recell.store provides a straightforward process for companies to manage used EV batteries by allowing them to register their batteries and receive quotes for recycling or second-life use. Altilium oversees the collection, dismantling, and processing of the batteries, with the goal of recovering valuable materials and reducing the need for mining.
Rod Savage, Altiliumâs Programme Director, commented on the launch, stating, âToday marks a significant milestone in our journey towards full battery circularity and a more sustainable transport future. Recell.store provides a solution for managing end-of-life EV batteries while supporting our commitment to environmental stewardship. By facilitating the recycling and reuse of these batteries, we aim to reduce waste and conserve resources.â
Altilium’s EcoCathodeâą technology plays a crucial role in the recycling process, enabling the recovery of over 95% of critical battery metals. This technology aims to lower costs and greenhouse gas emissions compared to sourcing virgin materials, allowing recovered materials to be reused in new battery production.
In light of the expected increase in end-of-life batteries, Altilium is also planning to establish the UKâs largest EV battery recycling facility in Teesside, which will be capable of processing batteries from over 150,000 EVs annually. This expansion reflects the companyâs commitment to battery circularity and maintaining a local supply chain for critical minerals.
