Hyundai has revealed a fully redesigned version of its hydrogen-powered Nexo at the Seoul Mobility Show, signaling the automaker’s continued commitment to fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) technology despite limited global infrastructure.
Inspired by the Initium concept shown in late 2024, the production Nexo adopts a boxier profile under the brand’s new ‘Art of Steel’ design language. The vehicle’s bold aesthetic has drawn comparisons to the Pontiac Aztek, though Hyundai appears to be embracing the unconventional look as part of its strategy to stand out in the alternative fuel segment.

The new model is longer, wider, and taller than its predecessor, allowing for increased cabin space. It also features a more powerful 201 bhp electric motor driving the front wheels — up from 161 bhp in the outgoing model — reducing the 0–62 mph acceleration time from 9.2 to 7.8 seconds. Under the hood, a revised hydrogen fuel cell stack pairs with a larger 6.69 kg hydrogen tank to offer an extended driving range of over 435 miles, according to the company.
“The launch marks a significant milestone in hydrogen mobility,” Hyundai said in a statement.
Aero enhancements and increased hydrogen storage density also contribute to the improved efficiency. The Nexo comes equipped with a built-in FCEV route planner to help drivers locate refueling stations, although hydrogen infrastructure remains sparse in many regions.

Inside, the Nexo offers a premium experience with features such as active noise cancelling, sound-absorbing tires, and generous soft-touch surfaces. Standard equipment includes wireless phone charging, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a head-up display, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen.
Like Hyundai’s latest electric vehicles, the Nexo also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, enabling it to power external devices. Hyundai says the new Nexo will be offered in global markets later this year.
