All-electric McLaren SUV is in development – report

Rumors of a McLaren SUV have once again surfaced among automotive enthusiasts. That was revealed in a Car Magazine interview with McLaren CEO, Michael Leiters.

In a recent interview with the UK-based media outlet, Leiters claimed that the manufacturing process for the SUV has already begun. Furthermore, the SUV will be a pure electric vehicle (EV), making it both McLaren’s first SUV and its first EV.

Although the news about the making of the electric SUV has been revealed, we have not heard an official statement from McLaren regarding this news.

As is known Leiters – who replaced Mike Flewitt as CEO of McLaren as of July 2022 – claimed to be a fan of SUVs. He has significant experience in this segment, having worked at Porsche and most recently at Ferrari by co-building the Porsche Cayenne and Ferrari Purosangue.

And let’s not forget, McLaren has already revealed an all-electric SUV (electric), even though it will not be used for everyday trips.

In November 2021, to be exact, the company introduced the McLaren Extreme E, a dedicated racing vehicle that competes in the off-road Extreme E series. There are obviously a few notes regarding this introduction, the first being that the McLaren Extreme E is not a production vehicle.

Not to mention the state of McLaren which is still struggling to overcome financial problems, this high-performance SUV may be mandatory at this time. Especially if you look at the success of the Lamborghini Urus, which is now a best-selling with sales of 20,000 units from 2018 at a fairly expensive price of over 230,000 dollars.
