ALD Automotive and ChargePoint Collaborate to Create Electric Mobility Service Provider for Corporate Fleets

ALD Automotive, the leasing and mobility subsidiary of Société Générale, and ChargePoint, a US-based electric vehicle (EV) charging network, have announced their plans to create an electric Mobility Service Provider (eMSP) dedicated to corporate fleet electrification. The new joint eMSP will be headquartered in the Paris region and aims to offer charging solutions across Europe for company fleets from the ChargePoint portfolio, including billing options.

“This agreement expands our relationship with ALD Automotive and enables more businesses to electrify their fleets,” said Pasquale Romano, CEO of ChargePoint. The partnership between ALD Automotive and ChargePoint dates back to 2019 when the British fleet service provider asked the US company to bring its services to ALD clients in more than nine European markets.

With this latest announcement, the new EV charging business will reinforce the cooperation between the two companies. The services will launch first in France and the Netherlands before expanding to Belgium and Germany. Eventually, the eMSP will be available in Italy, the UK, Sweden, Spain, Austria, Denmark, Finland, and Norway by 2025.

Like a fuel card, company car drivers can charge at more than 485,000 charging points in Europe with one app or charge card. Home and workplace charging is included, with costs presented in one consolidated report. Fleet managers will have access to one dashboard and simple invoicing, which is particularly relevant for those who manage their EV fleets through multiple leasing companies and charging wall box providers, according to ALD.

“With ChargePoint, our goal is to simplify and facilitate access to EV charging services for corporate fleets,” added Tim Albertsen, CEO of ALD.

In addition, the parties expect that the new business will be progressively extended to more countries over time, as well as to small and medium companies, leasing companies, and private clients. The statement also mentions carbon brokerage services (vehicle-to-grid, carbon credit) in the medium term.

ALD Automotive acquired competitor LeasePlan for €4.9 billion in January 2022 to form NewALD and primarily grow with e-mobility services. The company oversees about 3.5 million vehicles and one of the largest electric vehicle fleets. The new EV charging business is expected to reinforce ALD Automotive’s position as a leader in the e-mobility market.
