Aion, a Chinese automaker best known for producing cheap and cheerful EVs targeted at younger customers, has just entered the hypercar market with its first electric vehicle – the Hyper SSR. Boasting a 900 kW (1,225 hp) powertrain and a lightning-fast 0 to 100 km/h spring time of just 1.9 seconds, this dramatic-looking vehicle has the potential to compete with the fastest electric cars in the world.
The Hyper SSR is set to be a halo vehicle for the Aion brand, with the company hoping to sell more upmarket electric cars as part of its new strategy. While Aion has already unveiled its Hyper GT electric sedan, which boasts an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.19, the Hyper SSR is aimed at buyers who crave raw power and performance.

Priced at $187,000 for the base version and $244,000 for the Ultimate racetrack version, the Hyper SSR will be manufactured and sold in low volumes. Despite this, the car has the potential to disrupt the established supercar market with its impressive power output and performance.
Aion is confident that the Hyper SSR will be delivered on time, with recent photos taken at the company’s manufacturing facility showing a low-volume production line. While some slight changes have been made to the front of the vehicle compared to the prototype, the Hyper SSR still boasts an aggressive-looking design.
