The Fisker Ocean just started production in Austria and now, a new electric vehicle startup is testing the upcoming 2024 Pear on public roads.

In May Henrik Fisker targeted the first prototype of the Pear SUV to be ready by the end of the year. And the video footage and pictures taken last weekend prove that the CEO is keeping his word.

The Pear is an electric city car that will retail for less than $30,000 in the United States. The Pear will be built at GM’s ex-Ohio plant by Foxconn at a rate of around 250,000 units per year from 2024.

Priced at less than $30,000 it makes it competitive in the EV market, especially since its “made in the US” status means it still qualifies for a federal tax credit.

Fiskerati’s YouTube channel shows Pear crossing a bridge in Los Angeles wearing green camouflage and rolling over huge neon green seven-spoke wheels.

The Pear will come smaller than the current Ocean, though it clearly shares some similarities in design language. Similarities include a narrow strip of LED lights on the nose and sleek black plastic wheel arch extensions. You can also see it on the Instagram account @fiskerwhisperers

With more and more people around the world interested in making the switch to electric vehicles, more affordable options are gaining acceptance.

Autocar added that CEO Henrik Fisker described the Pear as “funky” because it didn’t really fit into any one segment. He explained:

“I guess you’d call it a crossover but it doesn’t really look like an SUV. It looks like a little futuristic space shuttle – to put it very well.”

The Pear, which will compete with the ID.3 in markets Volkswagen sells, is said to have plenty of interior space, a unique storage solution and two battery pack options. The cheaper options are mainly for city driving, though the larger packages should offer more than 310 miles of range.
