ABB E-mobility has introduced the C50, a slim and efficient charging solution designed for destination charging. With a depth of just 23.5 centimeters and a 21.5-inch touchscreen, the C50 offers up to 50 kW of power through dual connectors, catering to typical visitor dwell times of 60 to 90 minutes.
The C50 is tailored for retail and urban locations, addressing challenges associated with existing charging solutions. ABB emphasizes that while AC charging is often too slow for short stays and high-power DC chargers are costly for retail settings, solutions like the C50 bridge the gap. āCharging has to go beyond slow home charging and fast highway charging ā electrifying retail, public parking spaces, and urban environments plays a crucial role to drive broader adoption,ā said ABB CEO Michael Halbherr.
The chargerās design focuses on ease of installation and grid integration, making it suitable for various destination businesses. Halbherr described the C50 as a āfunctional, financially rewarding, and seamlessly integrated EV charging solution,ā highlighting its potential to transform low-traffic and high-demand locations alike.
ABB designed the C50 to overcome three primary barriers for destination charging: misaligned power levels, operational inefficiencies, and poor user experiences. The slim, out-of-the-box solution promises to simplify electrification for public spaces while ensuring profitability and customer satisfaction.
The C50 complements ABBās diverse portfolio of charging solutions, including chargers offering up to 400 kW. Earlier in 2024, ABB tested a prototype charger delivering 700 kW on a MAN eTruck, marking a milestone in high-power charging. ABBās partnerships with organizations like Bayern Munich, Formula E, and NASCAR further demonstrate its commitment to supporting EV adoption globally.
With the C50, ABB aims to drive the EV revolution forward, making charging more accessible and efficient for drivers who lack home charging options.
