ABB E-mobility, a leader in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, announced the expansion of its EV charging facility in the US with a new manufacturing operation in Columbia, South Carolina a few days ago.
With a multi-million dollar investment, the company expects it to increase production of electric vehicle chargers, including creating more than 100 jobs.
The company says the new facility will be capable of producing up to 10,000 chargers per year, ranging from 20kW to 180kW.
They will seek to start doing so as early as next year. The company also revealed that in the future, the charger network can be used by school bus fleets, and other commercial customers.
This manufacturing operation is a significant change from the previous US-based ABB. They were then focused on high power output chargers with speeds between 150 and 450 kW.
“The investment needs in the US e-mobility sector have never been this great, as 18 million EVs are expected to be on US roads by 2030,” said Bob Stojanovic, ABB E-mobility Vice President in North America in a press release found by Teslarati.
Stojanovic also said that their US manufacturing operations will enable the company to better serve customers and help advance EV adoption from private vehicles to public transport and fleets.
“Our facility in South Carolina is another example of how we are driving America’s e-mobility economy forward with quality, reliable EV charging solutions that meet the needs of every part of a sustainable transportation ecosystem.”
