Nova Bus, a Canadian bus manufacturer within the Volvo Group, has secured an order for 80 electric buses from the Regional Municipality of York, located near Toronto in Ontario. The order includes the LFSe+ model, a 12.19-meter low-floor electric bus built on the established LFS platform. These buses will be equipped with both pantograph and plug-in charging options, designed to provide flexibility with existing infrastructure, and a modular battery system allowing up to 564 kWh of energy storage.
The buses are expected to be delivered starting in 2026 from Nova Bus’ manufacturing facility in Saint-Eustache, Quebec. The order supports York Region’s ongoing efforts to electrify its public transport fleet, aligning with the region’s sustainability goals.

York Region, home to over 1.1 million people, has already incorporated 14 electric buses into its fleet and is working toward a fully electric bus fleet by 2050. The region has set a target of 194 electric buses as part of its zero-emission transportation plan. Financial support for this transition includes investments from the Canadian Zero Emission Transit Fund, the Canada Infrastructure Bank, and local sources.
The LFSe+ model has been well-received in Canada, with 1,229 units ordered by various public transport operators in Quebec in 2023. Nova Bus continues to be involved in the country’s efforts to expand electric bus fleets and reduce transportation emissions.
