Swedish public transport authority Svealandstrafiken has placed an order for 73 electric buses from Volvo Buses, marking a shift from its previous agreements with Dutch manufacturer Ebusco.
According to Swedish trade media Bussmagasinet.se, this new order will replace older buses and contribute to expanding services. Currently, Svealandstrafiken operates 17 Volvo electric buses in Västerås.
The 73 buses will include 13 articulated buses for urban transport in Örebro, scheduled for delivery in early 2026, and 60 buses for regional transport across Örebro and Västmanland counties.
The order also includes an option for additional vehicles, with the buses to be manufactured by MCV on Volvo’s chassis as part of a partnership signed in 2023.
Ebusco had previously secured several contracts with Svealandstrafiken, including a fleet of articulated 3.0 models set to operate by the second half of 2023, as well as additional orders in 2022 and 2023.
However, Svealandstrafiken has decided to cancel two of its three agreements with Ebusco, keeping only the 23-bus contract for the City Line in Örebro, awarded in June 2022. This will bring the total number of electric buses operating in Örebro city transport to 36.
