Shell Recharge Solutions (SRS) has entered into an agreement with Dutch charging solutions provider 50five, transferring responsibility for its home and workplace chargers across six markets, including Germany. As part of the transaction, Shell employees will also move to 50five. The deal includes markets such as the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Shell Recharge Solutions will continue to operate in other regions and explore additional external partnerships in the future.
The transition, which will not affect services for existing customers, includes the migration of Shell Recharge Solutions’ charge points to 50five’s operations. Customers will be informed directly about the takeover details. The focus of Shell’s business will remain on public charging solutions, including services related to Shell Card payments, on-the-go charging, and fleet solutions. “We’re delighted to collaborate with 50five, who has a proven track record in delivering excellent customer service for home and workplace charging,” said Xifeng Wu, Senior Vice President of Mobility Network and E-Mobility at Shell.
This shift is part of Shell’s broader reorganization of its charging operations, following the acquisition of NewMotion and Greenlots in recent years. NewMotion’s expertise in home charging and roaming services, along with Greenlots’ charging network and fleet solutions, contributed to the formation of Shell Recharge Solutions in 2022. With this latest restructuring, Shell is streamlining its focus, concentrating on expanding its public charging network.
50five, founded in 2016 and headquartered in the Netherlands, operates as a Charge Point Operator (CPO), offering integrated e-mobility services including energy management and charging-as-a-service. Manfred Klumpenaar, CEO of the 50five Group, expressed excitement about the acquisition, noting that it would strengthen their position as a leading European operator of charging stations. “We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues and customers and expanding our European EV charging network,” he said.
