Ford has unveiled a new version of its E-Transit electric van in Germany, featuring an upgraded 89 kWh battery that delivers a range of up to 402 kilometers (WLTP). This marks a 27% increase over the standard model’s 316 km range, aiming to meet the demands of a competitive market where rivals like the Renault Master E-Tech, Mercedes eSprinter, and Stellantis models now offer ranges of 400 km or more.
The new long-range E-Transit is priced from €64,590 net for the chassis variant and €65,990 net for the panel van, approximately €4,000 above the entry-level model with a smaller battery. Deliveries of the enhanced E-Transit are scheduled to begin in spring 2024.
The model retains the option of a 68 kWh battery for customers prioritizing payload over range, with the panel van offering up to 1,429 kilograms and the chassis version up to 1,783 kilograms in payload capacity.
Improvements go beyond range. The E-Transit now supports faster AC charging at up to 22 kW, halving the full charge time to six hours. DC fast charging capabilities have also been enhanced from 115 kW to 180 kW, reducing the time to charge from 10% to 80% to just 28 minutes.
Standard features in the long-range version include a heat pump with vapor injection for improved energy efficiency, while motor output options remain unchanged at 135 kW or 198 kW.
Ford, which reported a 55% market share for the E-Transit in 2023, faces increased competition as newer models gain traction. The ICCT noted a rise in Iveco eDaily sales in the EU, surpassing E-Transit in the third quarter of 2023. The next six months will reveal if the long-range upgrade reaffirms Ford’s dominance or reflects a shift in market preferences.
