Stellantis has announced that the launch of its highly anticipated all-electric Ram 1500 REV pickup will be delayed until the first half of 2025, a shift from the originally planned release by the end of 2024. The delay comes as the company manages an extensive workload associated with its upcoming product launches.
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares attributed the delay to the “significant” amount of work required to ensure the successful launch of the Ram 1500 REV, which will be built on the new STLA Frame platform. This platform, unveiled by Stellantis on Tuesday, is designed to power the next generation of electric trucks and SUVs, including the Ram 1500 REV. Tavares emphasized the company’s desire to be “prudent” in the validation process, taking extra time to refine and test the vehicle ahead of its market debut.
The Ram 1500 REV has generated significant excitement since its unveiling at CES 2023, with Tavares previously claiming that the electric pickup would “outperform all competitors” in key areas such as range, payload, towing capacity, and charging speed. While the vehicle’s range is expected to exceed 350 miles, the range-extended version (REEV) will offer up to 690 miles. Additionally, the pickup will boast a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 lbs and a 2,700 lb payload capacity.
Despite the delay, Stellantis remains committed to the electric transition, with the Ram 1500 REV being part of a broader push that includes several upcoming EV launches, such as the electric Dodge Charger Daytona and Jeep Wagoneer S. The company is working to manage the peak of these launches while ensuring its new vehicles meet the high standards expected by customers.
