Mitsubishi is set to expand its European lineup with the introduction of two new compact SUVs, which will be locally manufactured by Groupe Renault. According to the company, one model will be an electric vehicle (EV), while the other will feature internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid powertrain options. Both models are slated for launch in 2025.
In a recent teaser image, the two SUVs were shown alongside Mitsubishi’s existing European lineup, with speculation suggesting that the model on the left may be the Mitsubishi equivalent of the Renault Symbioz. This vehicle shares many design elements with the Mitsubishi ASX and Renault Captur subcompact SUV twins, highlighted by an identical lighting signature and a slightly extended body.
Mitsubishi’s upcoming SUV is expected to be available with both gasoline and self-charging hybrid powertrains. It will utilize the CMF-B architecture, similar to the Renault Symbioz, and is anticipated to measure 4,413 mm (173.7 inches) in length.
The second SUV, announced in December 2023, marks Mitsubishi’s return to the electric market, following the i-MiEV from 2010. This model will be based on the Renault Scenic E-Tech and will share the CMF-EV architecture with other models such as the Megane E-Tech, Nissan Ariya, and Alpine A390.
This electric variant will likely offer a slightly modified exterior design, featuring unique LED graphics. Expected powertrain options include 60 kWh and 87 kWh battery packs, along with single-motor configurations producing 168 hp (125 kW / 170 PS) and dual-motor setups delivering 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS).
Mitsubishi has indicated that the upcoming compact SUVs will be equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and will feature a Google built-in infotainment system, likely mirroring Renault’s OpenR system.
As noted in the teaser, the new Mitsubishi models will occupy a position above the subcompact Clio-based Colt and Captur-based ASX, but below the Outlander PHEV. The Outlander PHEV recently launched in Europe with a more efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain and a larger battery, enabling a combined range of 844 km (524 miles).
