Canoo has announced that it has received Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) regulatory certificates for its Right-Hand Drive (RHD) electric commercial delivery vans in the United Kingdom. This certification confirms that the vehicles meet the national technical requirements, allowing Canoo to proceed with pilot testing of the RHD variants of its LDV 130 and LDV 190 models with a selected fleet in the UK.
The IVA certification was obtained in a period of three months, with changes to the Bill of Materials (BoM) for the US-certified RHD LDV 190 being less than 2%. The modifications made are primarily applicable to components that are shared between the LDV 130 and LDV 190 models, indicating efficiency in Canoo’s engineering processes.
With the IVA certification secured, Canooâs commercial electric vehicles are eligible for legal operation in the UK, following registration with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). This approval ensures that the LDV 130 and LDV 190 vans comply with the safety and environmental standards required by the UK government.
Canooâs multi-purpose platform incorporates steer-by-wire technology and a low-profile suspension system, which supports a flexible right-hand drive configuration. This design feature is intended to enhance vehicle performance and allow for customization according to commercial needs.
The pilot phase will provide customers with access to Canoo’s proprietary technologies, designed to improve functionality, safety, and ergonomics in commercial delivery applications. This initiative aligns with the broader trend of adopting electric vehicles in the delivery sector.
As Canoo moves forward with its pilot testing in the UK, the company aims to demonstrate the capabilities of its RHD electric delivery vans, contributing to the expansion of electric vehicle options in international markets.
