Chinese automaker GAC is set to debut its Aion V electric SUV in Europe next year, marking the company’s entry into the continent’s growing electric vehicle (EV) market. The Aion V, already a well-known model in China, was showcased at the Paris Motor Show, where GAC announced its broader European ambitions, which include future launches of additional core models such as an SUV and a B-segment hatchback.
The Aion V, now in its second generation, is a midsize SUV measuring 4.65 meters in length, positioning it as a competitor to models like the Volkswagen ID.4. With power outputs ranging between 150 and 165 kW, the vehicle aims to appeal to consumers seeking a robust, battery-electric alternative in the European market.
While the European version is expected to retain the same exterior design, modifications to the battery and drive system might be made, though specifics have not been confirmed.
In China, GAC offers three battery options for the Aion V, with capacities of 62 kWh, 75 kWh, and 90 kWh, providing ranges of up to 520, 650, and 750 kilometers respectively according to the Chinese CLTC standard. However, these figures may be lower when measured under Europe’s WLTP standard.
Inside, the Aion V features a minimalist design with a two-spoke steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The interior is consistent with many of the modern electric cars being launched by Chinese manufacturers, featuring clean, functional layouts.
GAC has emphasized its “Japanese heritage” as a key differentiator from its Chinese competitors, citing its joint ventures with Toyota and Honda as vital to its focus on manufacturing quality.
GAC also claims to be one of the few automakers capable of independently researching, developing, and manufacturing battery-electric vehicle (BEV) batteries, and plans to introduce innovative technologies to Europe, such as solid-state batteries and advanced charging solutions.
While GAC has not yet provided further details regarding pricing or specific market launches, it is expected to focus initially on smaller European countries before expanding to larger markets such as Germany and France around 2026. In China, the Aion V is priced between 129,800 to 189,800 yuan (approximately €16,450 to €24,050).
