Dutch logistics service provider Simon Loos is set to significantly expand its fleet of electric trucks by ordering 75 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 units, which will more than double its current fleet of 60 electric trucks. This order was placed during the IAA Transportation event in Hanover, with the first eActros 600 expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2025.
Upon completion of the delivery, Simon Loos will have a total of 135 electric vehicles, claiming to possess the largest fleet of electric trucks in the Netherlands. The company currently operates 60 fully electric trucks, predominantly sourced from Daimler Truck. Simon Loos has a history of collaboration with Daimler, having participated in the ‘innovation fleet’ for the eActros 300 and being one of the initial customers to purchase the eActros 300 tractor unit.
The eActros 600, unveiled by Daimler Truck at the IAA Transportation in September, features a 621 kWh battery using LFP cells, offering a range of approximately 500 kilometers. The battery can be charged at rates of up to 400 kW via the CCS connection, with future preparedness for MCS charging capabilities (Megawatt Charging System) that could exceed 1,000 kW.
Wim Roks, Fleet Manager at Simon Loos, highlighted the transformative potential of the eActros 600, stating, “Whereas we were previously able to plan around 250 to 300 kilometers per trip with electric power without hesitation, we will be able to cover 500 kilometers with these trucks.” He emphasized that this advancement removes journey distance as a planning restriction, marking a significant step forward in the integration of electric transport. The eActros 600 is also equipped with an e-PTO (Power Take-Off) to electrically power the refrigeration unit on the trailer, allowing Simon Loos to position it as a “fully-fledged alternative to diesel trucks.”
Daimler Truck plans to commence series production of the eActros 600 in November at its Wörth am Rhein plant, with deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. Simon Loos will be among the first companies to receive these trucks, further solidifying its commitment to sustainable logistics solutions.
