Poland has received approval from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for subsidy programs totaling 6 billion zlotys (approximately 1.4 billion euros). These funds are earmarked for the development of high-performance charging infrastructure and to support the purchase of heavy electric vehicles (eHDVs).
The Polish National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management has been officially sanctioned to roll out a new subsidy program, with grants allocated for various e-mobility initiatives. Among the key components, 2 billion zlotys will be allocated specifically for the purchase of new zero-emission trucks. The program aims to accelerate the pace of development in the transport sector, enhancing competition for electric heavy-duty vehicles.
Under this initiative, large companies can receive subsidies covering up to 30% of eligible costs, while medium-sized firms can claim up to 50%, and small businesses can access up to 60%. However, there are limits on the total subsidy amounts: 400,000 zlotys for N2 category vehicles and 750,000 zlotys for N3 category vehicles. Additionally, if a company opts to lease a truck instead of purchasing it, the subsidy cannot exceed the initial leasing fee.
The remaining funds will be allocated through two other subsidy programs, which have also received prior approval from the EIB and are expected to be launched soon. These programs will focus on constructing and expanding electricity grids for publicly accessible high-power charging stations, as well as developing public charging infrastructure specifically for heavy transport. The combined budget for these initiatives is set at 4 billion zlotys, with beneficiaries including charging station operators. The charging station subsidy program will remain active until 2029, at which point its effectiveness and implementation will be reassessed.
Currently, there are only around 100 electric heavy-duty vehicles on Polish roads. Piotr Ziółkowski, PSNM Committee Coordinator for Logistics and Transport, emphasized the importance of these support programs, stating, “The implementation of the eagerly awaited support programmes will be an important step towards maintaining the status quo in the sector. These initiatives, thanks to their comprehensive nature, give hope for rapid market development and increased interest in electrification among transport companies in Poland.” PSNM is an industry organization focused on shaping the e-mobility and hydrogen technology markets in Poland and the Central and Eastern European region.
