Production of Zeekr’s 7X SUV faced a temporary disruption due to a fire at one of the electric vehicle maker’s second-tier suppliers, potentially impacting deliveries of the model, the company stated. The incident, which occurred at the supplier’s facility, caused a delay in parts supply but did not result in any injuries.

The fire incident was confirmed by Zeekr’s vice president Zhu Ling on Weibo on October 12. “The plant is not a Zeekr facility, and no one was injured in the fire,” Zhu said. He added that Zeekr had assisted the supplier in resuming normal production, with its factory in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, now operating at full capacity.

The fire’s impact on Zeekr’s production is expected to show in weekly EV insurance registration data. Zeekr recorded 3,700 insurance registrations in the week ending October 6, down from 5,800 the previous week, representing a 36.21 percent decline, according to figures from Li Auto. Deutsche Bank’s data indicated that the Zeekr 7X registered 1,460 vehicles that week, down 34 percent from the previous week’s 2,200 registrations.

Zeekr launched the 7X SUV on September 20, with deliveries beginning the following day. Despite the disruption, the model achieved over 6,000 locked-in orders within 24 hours of its release and delivered more than 5,000 units in the first 10 days.

As of October 7, Zeekr announced that firm orders for the 7X had surpassed 20,000 units, with expectations to exceed 10,000 deliveries in the first full delivery month. In September, Zeekr delivered a record 21,333 vehicles, marking the second consecutive month of deliveries above 20,000 units. For the first nine months of 2024, the company delivered 142,873 vehicles, reflecting an 80.79 percent year-on-year growth.
