GM Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Co. based in Detroit, announced today the launch of the GM Energy PowerBank, a stationary storage solution designed to empower electric vehicle (EV) owners by enabling them to store and transfer energy from the grid. The product also offers options for integration with solar power systems.

The company has expanded access to its energy management products across all 50 states, further enhancing its offerings. The GM Energy PowerBank is available in two battery capacity variants—10.6 kWh and 17.7 kWh—and can provide power to homes during outages or help offset higher electricity rates during peak demand periods.

Customers can store and utilize captured solar energy, supplement EV charging, and supply power to their homes even without an EV present. By connecting two 17.7 kWh GM Energy PowerBanks, users can achieve a total of 35.4 kWh of stationary storage, sufficient to power the average American home for up to 20 hours.

“One of the core differentiators of GM Energy’s portfolio is its modularity,” said Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy. “The flexibility of our energy management tools, combined with one of the market’s largest lineups of vehicle-to-home-capable EVs, gives our customers more control over their energy use, helping to mitigate the impact of power outages, integrating renewable energy options, and unlocking additional value.”

The GM Energy PowerBank is available for purchase as part of the GM Energy Home System bundle, which also includes a GM Energy PowerShift charger and a GM Energy Vehicle-to-Home Enablement kit. Customers who have already purchased the GM Energy V2H Bundle can easily add a GM Energy PowerBank to their system.

For those integrating solar power, GM Energy will refer customers to preferred installer Qmerit for site assessments, compatibility checks, and personalized quotes.

Similar to existing GM Energy V2H products, the GM Energy PowerBank and compatible solar power systems will be accessible through GM’s brand mobile apps, facilitating seamless energy management. Customers with inquiries can visit GM Energy Live, where product specialists provide further information and showcase GM Energy’s solutions through an immersive digital experience.
