Environmental service provider PreZero is set to enhance its operations in the Netherlands by adding 30 electric rubbish trucks to its fleet, replacing traditional diesel vehicles. This expansion follows the introduction of ten electric trucks already in operation for PreZero in Duiven since 2023.

The new electric trucks will collect commercial waste across various locations, including Amsterdam, Utrecht, Dordrecht, Berkel en Rodenrijs, Duiven, Helmond, Alphen aan den Rijn, Hengelo, and Apeldoorn. To support this initiative, six new charging stations will be installed at each of the nine depots in these cities, with Heliox acting as the technology partner.

The charging stations will feature an innovative design, positioned under overhead bridges, allowing vehicles to charge from above and optimizing space utilization. “Previously, there was a charging column between every two vehicles, but now six trucks can be parked side by side,” the company stated.

This summer, PreZero successfully electrified the depots in Berkel, Rodenrijs, and Amsterdam, with plans to complete the remaining locations in the coming months.

Iwan te Winkel, COO of PreZero Netherlands, emphasized the urgency of advancing sustainability efforts, stating, “Stalling sustainability progress is not an option. We all have ambitious goals that we must achieve for the sake of the planet.” He further highlighted the company’s commitment to the circular economy, aiming to transform waste into new raw materials while steadily reducing CO2 emissions and transport movements in waste collection.

As Dutch municipalities strive for emissions-free city centers by 2025, PreZero is not only acquiring electric vehicles but also engaging in several initiatives to promote sustainable urban logistics.

The company is also involved in an international project exploring the use of hydrogen-powered vehicles for waste collection, furthering its dedication to environmental responsibility.
