The Lucid Air Sapphire, regarded as the pinnacle of electric sedans, recently showcased its capabilities on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, completing a series of hot laps. This has raised speculation about whether Lucid Motors is aiming for a lap record or simply conducting routine testing for future developments.

Currently, the record for the fastest series-production four-door electric vehicle around the Nürburgring is held by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which completed the circuit in an impressive 7:07.55 earlier this year. This time places it just two seconds behind the Rimac Nevera, a record that may stand for some time. Given that the Taycan Turbo GT features significantly more track-oriented aerodynamics than the Air Sapphire, it is unlikely that the Lucid will match this time.

However, the Air Sapphire could potentially challenge the time set by the Tesla Model S Plaid, which currently stands at 7:25.231. With a power advantage over the Tesla, the Lucid Air appeared to perform impressively during its laps, although its size and weight may affect its handling through turns.

This testing is not the first instance of Lucid evaluating the Air’s performance at the Nürburgring. Although the company has not yet released an official lap time for the circuit, doing so could serve as a powerful marketing tool. Continued testing at the demanding track could also yield valuable insights to enhance the Air’s performance further.
