Polestar has unveiled its Plug & Charge feature for the new flagship SUV, the Polestar 3, along with enhancements to its Polestar Charge App, aimed at simplifying the public charging experience for customers. This innovative system acts like a digital wallet, enabling the vehicle to authenticate the user and communicate directly with compatible public chargers. As a result, it automates the charging process and eliminates the usual steps required to set up a charging session.

Once customers arrive at their chosen charging location, they can plug in their Polestar 3 and benefit from a streamlined charging experience. The Plug & Charge technology is currently available at over 9,500 High Power Charging points, including selected Ionity and Mer locations.

Lutz Stiegler, CTO of Polestar, remarked, “With Plug & Charge we offer a premium service to Polestar 3 customers that makes charging their car on the road as easy and hassle-free as possible. This advanced technology will make a real difference to customers’ day-to-day life, and we’re excited to bring it to Polestar 3 first with other models in our range to follow soon after.”

The introduction of Plug & Charge means that Polestar 3 drivers no longer need to manually select the charging location, confirm the charger they are connected to, and initiate payment through the Polestar Charge App or the Polestar Charge card. When activated, the car autonomously communicates with the charger to process payment directly, thus simplifying the charging process.

To utilize this feature, Polestar 3 owners must activate it within their vehicle’s charging settings and connect to the Polestar Charge App or another E-mobility Service Provider. The Polestar Charge app grants access to more than 800,000 public charging points across Europe and offers subscription-based fast charging at discounted rates at numerous public charging locations. This not only enhances convenience but also provides better value for customers.

The Plug & Charge functionality is now available in the Polestar 3, with plans to extend this feature to additional Polestar models in 2025.
