Rivian’s future lineup appears to be generating considerable excitement, positioning itself as a strong competitor against Tesla. The company is set to release the boxy R2 model, priced at approximately $45,000, in 2026, followed closely by the R3 lineup, which is expected to start at around $35,000.

Recently, Rivian showcased prototypes of the R3 at automotive expos, allowing select attendees to preview the upcoming mass-market model. According to CEO RJ Scaringe, the off-road variant, R3X, will also be available at a price point of about $45,000, making these vehicles attractive options for consumers.

At the Everything Electric Canada 2024 expo, automotive expert Sandy Munro had the opportunity to examine the R3 crossover vehicle. Known for his expertise in vehicle disassembly and analysis, Munro commended the build quality of the R3, noting the precise alignment of components. However, he advised that a final judgment would be reserved until production vehicles are available.

The design of the R3 has received praise for its nostalgic elements combined with modern touches, reminiscent of the successful Golf Country lift-kit concept. Additionally, innovative features, such as the rear gate button that allows for the opening of just the rear window for quick access, have been highlighted as practical enhancements.

Recent previews of the R3 and R3X have also focused on interior comfort, with positive feedback regarding the seating space and suitability for taller passengers.

Notably, both the Rivian R3 and R3X models will be equipped with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port, enabling users to access Tesla’s Supercharger network for longer journeys. There are expectations that Rivian will relocate the R3’s charging port to the driver’s side, similar to the adjustments planned for the R2 model before its release.
