Recent spy shots have surfaced, offering the first glimpse into the interior of the inaugural model from Nio’s third brand, internally referred to as “Firefly.”

The images were shared by the local automotive outlet Auto Home and mark a significant development in Nio’s expansion into smaller, more affordable electric vehicles (EVs).

According to the report, Firefly’s interior features a dual-screen setup, consisting of an LCD dashboard and a floating center screen, providing one additional screen compared to Nio’s second sub-brand Onvo’s first model, the L60.

The steering wheel also reflects Nio’s signature two-tone design. The report further noted that Firefly’s gearshift is expected to be located beneath the steering wheel, resembling the layout of the Volkswagen ID.3.

Onvo, Nio’s second brand, launched its first model, the L60, on September 19, with a starting price of RMB 206,900 ($29,310). Meanwhile, the Firefly brand is aimed at a lower price range, between RMB 100,000 and RMB 200,000.

Commenting on the brand’s strategy, Nio founder and CEO William Li had earlier likened Firefly’s position to “what Mini is to BMW,” during a live broadcast on the Douyin platform.

Though originally set for an earlier release, the first Firefly model is expected to debut in 2025. Li also confirmed that while Firefly’s models will support battery swaps, they will require exclusive, smaller battery swap stations separate from Nio’s existing infrastructure. “Firefly will not share battery swap stations with Nio and Onvo,” Li stated at a user communication event held in June.
