Shell Recharge has launched Malaysia’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Genting Highlands, Pahang, about an hour north of Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysia Book of Records has recognized the facility as the highest-altitude EV charging hub in the country, located at 1,865 meters above sea level.

The new station features ten charging spots, comprising two 360 kW DC chargers and three 22 kW AC chargers, each with two CCS Type 2 charging guns. The 360 kW chargers can deliver maximum power when a single car is connected, while two vehicles sharing a charger will receive 270 kW and 90 kW, respectively. Charging costs MYR 2.8 per kWh (EUR 0.55/kWh), though Porsche Taycan owners enjoy a reduced rate of MYR 0.80 per kWh (EUR 0.16/kWh) through a complimentary 3-year Shell Recharge Platinum membership. The 22 kW AC chargers are priced at MYR 1.30 per kWh (EUR 0.26/kWh).

To manage demand, Shell Recharge has implemented a ‘reservation fee’ of MYR 10 (EUR 2.0) for the 360 kW DC chargers and MYR 8 (EUR 1.6) for the 22 kW AC chargers, waived if the reserved bay is occupied within ten minutes. Customers have 15 minutes to vacate the spot after charging, with an idle fee of MYR 10 (EUR 2.0)—or MYR 5 (EUR 1.0) for Shell Recharge Platinum members—applied every 15 minutes for the 360 kW chargers. For the 22 kW AC chargers, the idle fee is MYR 2 (EUR 0.4) every 15 minutes.

Shell first announced the charging station plans in December 2023, partnering with Porsche and Genting Malaysia. The hub is located at Resorts World Genting, a popular resort managed by Genting Malaysia.

In addition to this high-altitude charging station, Shell Recharge operates one of Southeast Asia’s most extensive cross-country high-performance charging networks, connecting Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. In Malaysia alone, Shell Recharge has 22 high-performance charging points across 11 locations along major highways.

A Shell representative emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding EV infrastructure in the region. “Our goal is to provide convenient and reliable charging solutions for EV owners across Malaysia and beyond,” the representative stated.

This strategic expansion by Shell Recharge aims to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles by enhancing the availability of advanced charging facilities in key locations.
