Sysco, the US food delivery company, has added ten new electric heavy-duty trucks to its fleet at its operating site in Houston, Texas. The new Freightliner eCascadia vehicles from Daimler Truck North America bring Sysco’s electric truck fleet to nearly 120 EVs worldwide.
These new electric trucks will join Sysco’s fleet in Houston, with an additional ten trucks expected to arrive next month. Sysco’s existing electric truck fleet consists of over 100 vehicles operating in various locations across the US, with the remaining 20 units in service in Canada, the UK, and Sweden.
Neil Russell, Chief Administrative Officer at Sysco, expressed pride in the company’s progress toward scaling its electric truck fleet, stating, “We are proud of our progress to scale our electric truck fleet and continue our journey to meet our climate goal. This work is important to many of our customers who have also set goals to reduce emissions.”
Dan Purefoy, Sysco’s Chief Supply Chain Officer, highlighted the collaborative efforts that have enabled the company to deploy such a large number of electric vehicles, stating, “The scale of our EV deployment today is the result of years of planning and tremendous levels of cross-industry collaboration.”
In 2022, Sysco signed a letter of intent with Daimler Truck North America to purchase up to 800 Freightliner eCascadia electric trucks, all of which are expected to be delivered by 2026. Sysco aims to electrify about 35 percent of its US fleet by 2030, as part of its commitment to sustainability and reducing emissions.
