Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng delivered 10,146 vehicles in May, achieving a milestone by surpassing the 10,000-vehicle mark for the first time this year. While this figure represents only half of what the company delivered in December last year, it marks a 35.17 percent increase year-on-year and an 8.02 percent increase from April, according to data released today.
So far in 2024, Xpeng has delivered 41,360 vehicles, showing a solid 26.04 percent increase.

A significant portion of May’s deliveries came from the Xpeng X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), with 1,625 units delivered, bringing the cumulative deliveries of the X9 to 11,456 units. Launched on January 1, the X9 is Xpeng’s flagship model under the SEPA (Smart Electric Platform Architecture) 2.0.
The X9, a seven-seat MPV, has a starting price of RMB 359,800 ($49,680), with deliveries commencing on January 16.
In a notable event, Xpeng’s chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng personally delivered an X9 to William Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of Nio (NYSE: NIO), in Hefei, Anhui province, on May 11. This marked Li’s first purchase of a vehicle from another brand in eight years, highlighting the significance of the X9 in the market.

Regarding technology, Xpeng reported that in May, the monthly active user penetration rate of its XNGP (Xpeng navigation guided pilot) in urban driving scenarios reached 84%. Additionally, the company’s R&D team has certified over 6.46 million kilometers of XNGP road tests as of May, bringing it closer to achieving full nationwide road coverage by the third quarter of this year.
On May 20, Xpeng officially announced the full-scale rollout of its AI in-vehicle operating system, XOS 5.1.0, or AI Tianji OS, to eligible users at the AI Day event. This release underscores Xpeng’s leading position in applying end-to-end AI models in China’s automotive industry, featuring the world’s first AI Valet Driver utilizing advanced AI technology.
