Tesla CEO Elon Musk has provided new insights into the performance of the upcoming next-generation Roadster, dismissing the idea of its performance being similar to the larger and heavier Tesla Model S Plaid. Musk’s comments came in response to a post by Tesla watcher Sawyer Merritt, who highlighted inaccuracies in a report by The Information.
Contrary to The Information’s report, Musk reiterated that it would be illogical for Tesla to release a next-generation Roadster with performance comparable to the Model S Plaid. Musk previously stated in May 2021 that the Roadster should achieve a 0-60 mph time of about 1.1 seconds.

Addressing the recent report, Musk referred to it as “The [Wrong] Information,” emphasizing that the next-generation Roadster would not merely match the Model S’s acceleration. He wrote, “It would also obviously be ridiculous for the Roadster to achieve simply the same 0-60mph time as Model S, even though it is a 2 door fully performance-oriented vehicle.”
In February, Musk announced that the next-generation Roadster would be a collaboration between SpaceX and Tesla, with plans to unveil the all-electric halo car by the end of 2024. Musk noted that achieving a 0-60 mph time of less than 1 second would be the least interesting aspect of the vehicle.
Musk also revealed that Tesla had significantly raised the design goals for the all-electric hypercar. Describing the next-generation Roadster as radically different from other cars on the road, Musk suggested that there would never be another vehicle like it, questioning whether it could even be classified as a car.
