Mahle Aftermarket has unveiled its latest innovation, the ‘E-Health Charge’ battery diagnostics solution, designed to provide information on the state and performance of high-voltage batteries in electric cars. This new system boasts a measurement time of up to 15 minutes, making it the fastest static battery diagnosis solution currently available in the market.
Philipp Grosse Kleimann, member of the Mahle Group Management Board and Head of the Aftermarket division, highlighted the evolving demands on workshops, stating, “The demands on workshops are becoming more diverse. Battery electric drives, hybrids, internal combustion engines and hydrogen drives will form the drive mix of the future. With this newest addition to our BatteryPRO product line, E-HEALTH Charge, we are equipping independent workshops for the future and positioning ourselves even stronger as their partner.”
The ‘E-Health Charge’ system aims to provide more transparency for battery quality and vehicle value for testing companies, fleet operators, and workshops. This is particularly crucial as the high-voltage battery represents the most significant cost factor for electric vehicles, with its lifespan influenced by various external factors. The E-Health Charge system provides valuable information that was previously inaccessible.
The diagnostic system comprises the E-Charge 20 battery charger and the E-Health app, offering both charging and battery diagnostics in a single operation. The application is designed to be vehicle- and manufacturer-independent, requiring no prior knowledge from the service team due to its automated process.
Georges Mourad, Director Global Service Solutions at Mahle Aftermarket, emphasized the impact of the new solution, stating, “With our battery diagnosis solution E-HEALTH Charge, we are pushing the boundaries of battery diagnostics and helping workshops to secure additional business volume beyond the internal combustion engine.”
The E-Charge 20 battery charger, an integral component of the E-Health Charge system, boasts an output of 20 kW and can function as a standalone charger for fully electric vehicles, irrespective of diagnostics. Mahle has already introduced the system in Italy, Portugal, Serbia, and Poland, with Germany and the Netherlands set to follow.
The E-Health Charge battery diagnostics system allows mechanics to quickly and easily assess the “state of health” of high-voltage batteries with minimal effort. The diagnosis is performed on a stationary vehicle, with the high-voltage battery being charged simultaneously.
Mahle Aftermarket collaborates with battery specialist Volytica Diagnostics to analyze the data collected by the charger and the OBD interface. The data is analyzed in a secure cloud, classified in relation to previously recorded batteries of the same type, and compared with the original capacity of the vehicle model.
