BYD has introduced an updated version of its Seagull model, significantly lowering the price of its least expensive variant as part of its latest round of model updates.
The company announced the launch of the Seagull’s Glory Edition, which now starts at RMB 69,800 ($9,700), down RMB 4,000, or 5.42 percent, from its previous starting price of RMB 73,800.
This move comes after BYD’s recent model updates on February 19, which included the release of the Qin Plus Glory Edition and the Chaser 05 Glory Edition. These updates follow the introduction of the Champion Editions in the previous round of model updates last year.

The starting price of both the Qin Plus Glory Edition and Chaser 05 Glory Edition has been reduced to RMB 79,800, just RMB 6,000 higher than the starting price of the newly updated Seagull.
The lower pricing of the Seagull’s Glory Edition further widens the price gap between this model and the Qin Plus Glory Edition and Chaser 05 Glory Edition, now standing at RMB 10,000.
The Seagull, launched by BYD on April 26, 2023, continues to offer three variants of the Glory Edition, with starting prices of RMB 69,800, RMB 75,800, and RMB 85,800, respectively.

Despite the price adjustments, the specifications of the Seagull remain unchanged, with dimensions of 3,780 mm in length, 1,715 mm in width, and 1,540 mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm.
The Seagull is powered by a blade battery based on lithium iron phosphate chemistry, with pack capacities ranging from 30.08 kWh to 38.88 kWh, offering CLTC ranges of 305 kilometers to 405 kilometers across the three variants.
Equipped with an electric motor delivering a maximum power of 55 kW and a peak torque of 135 Nm, the Seagull can accelerate from 0 to 50 kilometers per hour in 4.9 seconds. As BYD’s most affordable model, the Seagull aims to attract price-conscious customers looking for an entry-level electric vehicle.

In addition to its mass-market models, BYD is also targeting the ultra-luxury car market through its Yangwang brand, with offerings such as the Yangwang U8 SUV and the U9 electric supercar.
BYD also expanded its global reach, launching the Seagull in Brazil and Mexico on March 4, where it is marketed under the name Dolphin Mini. The Dolphin, a slightly higher-priced model, also received a Glory Edition update, with a starting price of RMB 99,800, representing a 14.55 percent reduction from the previous version.
