Volvo CE is pushing back against the notion that electric vehicles struggle in cold weather, showcasing their effectiveness by deploying a fleet of battery electric equipment at Swedish ski resorts. Teaming up with SkiStar, Sweden’s largest ski resort operator, Volvo CE is committed to achieving fully fossil-free operations.
The collaboration with SkiStar is part of Volvo CE’s broader initiative to develop a roadmap towards more sustainable, fossil-free ski resorts. The pilot project aims to demonstrate the viability of climate-neutral construction projects by implementing holistic decarbonization solutions at job sites.

Mats Bredborg, Head of Customer Cluster Utility at Volvo CE, underlined the importance of this project, stating, “The pilot project is intended to show that it is possible to make ski resorts more sustainable and provide a more enjoyable experience for everyone. Zero emissions and low noise are better for the environment and for people. Electric solutions are also ideal for use in sensitive and tranquil locations like ski resorts. At the end of the day, if we want to ensure winter sports are still around for future generations to enjoy, then we all need to play our part.”
Niklas Wahlberg, VP Partnership and System Solutions at Volvo Group, highlighted the collaborative approach needed for a successful transition to sustainability, saying, “We believe collaboration is the way forward to deliver the transformation that is required, transitioning away from a brown platform that relies on fossil fuels to a green platform. We need to do this at pace and at scale.”
