Peugeot Aims for Full Electric Vehicle Range by 2024, Unveils E-5008 and E-408 Models

French automaker Peugeot has announced its commitment to offer a complete range of electric vehicles by the end of 2024, unveiling the E-408 fastback and the E-5008 SUV at the second edition of e-Lion Day. The company also introduced an 8-year / 160,000 km warranty program for E-3008 customers and revealed the integration of ChatGPT technology into its entire passenger and LCV lineup.

The star of the event was the electric version of the next-gen 5008, set to debut later this year. Although still concealed under a veil, the teaser revealed its distinctive upright rear end and recognizable LED lighting signature. The E-5008, sharing the STLA Medium underpinnings with the E-3008, will feature a three-row seven-seater layout and a larger boot due to its longer body and boxier tail. In addition to fully electric versions, Peugeot will offer ICE-powered alternatives with mild-hybrid powertrains.

The Peugeot E-408, mentioned in the past, will arrive earlier than expected, aligning with the company’s goal to complete its EV lineup by the close of 2024. These new models will join the existing lineup of 12 electric vehicles, including 9 passenger vehicles and 3 LCVs. Notably, there was no mention of an electric version for the midsize 508 and 508 SW.

Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson clarified that the company won’t introduce an EV smaller than the E-208 supermini, dispelling speculations about a successor to the discontinued 108. The e-Lion Day 2024 also introduced the “Peugeot Allure Care” program, an 8-year warranty covering all electrical and mechanical elements of the new E-3008.

In a move following other automakers, Peugeot announced the integration of ChatGPT technology for its entire lineup of passenger vehicles and LCVs starting from the second half of 2024. The technology aims to enhance the capabilities of the existing i-Cockpit infotainment, providing a voice assistant capable of answering a variety of questions and requests using artificial intelligence.

Lastly, Peugeot reconfirmed its commitment to the circular economy, emphasizing the increased use of recycled parts, and reiterated its long-term goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2038.
