Batteries are still the most expensive EV component. This is understandable because the production is not yet large, making these components expensive. Recently a Finnish citizen chose to blow up his Tesla car after mechanics charge $23K to replace the battery.
The price of EV batteries has actually fallen quite significantly in recent years. Since 2008, the price of battery packs has decreased by 87%.
Recently a Reddit user, Terrrh, received an offer for a Ford Mustang Mach-E battery for $42,624.22 (USD). Prices vary based on specifications and the dealer they order from, but the Ford Mustang Mach-E battery costs the same as Ford’s new compact truck, the Maverick.
As reported by Carscoops, Lakeland Ford in Florida will sell the standard Ford Mustang Mach-E battery pack for $18,514.13 while the long-range Ford Mustang Mach-E battery will cost $23,648.94. Meanwhile the price of the 2022 Ford Maverick starts at $19,995 for the XL Hybrid.
Other dealers are less expensive, such as Village Ford in Dearborn, Michigan which will sell remote batteries for $20,811.07, excluding core costs and an additional $5,000 in shipping if you don’t replace the battery at the Ford dealer of your choice.
Then did you become worried because of this and decided not to buy an EV?
The thing we should know is that the only reason we replace batteries is damage to the battery, whether due to charging errors, direct damage, or defects in the battery itself.
The latest batteries use modern technology that can last longer than most. However, if you are a first-hand owner of an EV car, it is unlikely to make you replace the battery. Still, it’s scary to see how much a modest car costs.
