BYD made a strategic shift in March 2022, discontinuing the production and sale of vehicles exclusively powered by internal combustion engines. The focus transitioned to NEVs, encompassing battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).
The timeline of BYD’s NEV production highlights a noteworthy trajectory. It took the company 13 years to achieve its first million units, followed by an acceleration in production rates. The interval between the 2 millionth and 3 millionth NEV was a mere six months.
October 2023 witnessed BYD reaching a record-breaking milestone by selling 301,833 NEVs, surpassing the 300,000-unit mark for the first time. This achievement marked the sixth consecutive month of record-high sales. From January to October, BYD reported a year-on-year increase of 70.36%, with 2,381,471 NEVs sold.
In addition to its domestic success, BYD is making strides in international markets, having sold 176,041 vehicles overseas in the first ten months of the year, including 30,521 in October alone. BYD’s NEVs have penetrated 58 overseas markets, including prominent countries such as Germany, Japan, France, Brazil, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates, with overseas sales surpassing 200,000 units.
As BYD continues its global expansion and innovation in NEV technology, the company remains at the forefront of shaping the future of sustainable transportation.
