The off-road motorcycle landscape is witnessing a transformation, driven by the rise of electric dirtbikes that offer a unique blend of lightweight design, potent performance, and silent operation. At the recent EICMA 2023 event, numerous electric off-roaders were on display, with Hero MotoCorp’s subsidiary, Vida, introducing its inaugural electric off-road model – the Vida Concept Lynx.
Focusing on the essential attributes of electric off-road bikes, Vida prioritizes keeping weight low to maximize performance. The Concept Lynx impressively weighs in at a mere 82 kilograms (approximately 181 pounds). Harnessing the inherent torque and instantaneous power of electric motors, the mid-mounted electric motor delivers a noteworthy 15 kilowatts, equivalent to around 21 horsepower. This configuration promises agile and responsive performance, accentuated by the electric bike’s instantaneous torque.
Vida’s design philosophy for the Concept Lynx draws inspiration from the agile and maneuverable lynx cat, aiming to deliver exceptional off-road capabilities. The bike is purported to provide significant power and torque from zero rpm, excelling in steep climbs, navigating rocky terrain, and maintaining traction on loose surfaces such as gravel and sand. The exposed trellis structure of the frame not only contributes to the bike’s aesthetics but also plays a role in keeping its weight low.
While a comprehensive spec list for the Concept Lynx is yet to be disclosed, Vida indicates that the electric off-roader will feature modern connected technology. Through smartphone integration and a dedicated mobile app, riders can customize the bike’s performance parameters to suit their preferences and the specific terrain they are tackling. The bike’s compact three-kilowatt-hour battery pack, a compromise for weight considerations, is estimated to offer approximately an hour of spirited riding.
It’s noteworthy that the Lynx electric dirtbike is currently in the conceptual stage, and neither Hero MotoCorp nor Vida has released details on pricing and availability. Nevertheless, this venture into the off-road electric segment marks an exciting development, particularly for enthusiasts in India, where Vida has previously concentrated on utility and commuting offerings, notably the V1 scooter.
