Kia has officially introduced the EV5 to the Chinese market at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition 2023. Initially showcased at the Chengdu Motor Show earlier this year, the electric vehicle was already available for order in China, with an original starting price of 159,800 yuan (~US$22,162).
However, Kia has now announced a revised starting price of 149,800 yuan (~US$20,775), a reduction of 10,000 yuan (~US$1,387) from the initial expectations.
The entry-level trim of the Kia EV5 in China features a 160kW motor paired with a BYD LFP Blade 64.2 kWh battery, providing an impressive range of up to 530 km (~329 miles). Additionally, a long-range variant, equipped with a larger 88 kWh LFP power pack, extends the range to 720 km (~447 miles) while maintaining the same motor. An all-wheel-drive (AWD) model is anticipated, featuring dual 160kW front and 70kW rear engines, coupled with an 88 kWh battery. Pricing details for these long-range models are yet to be clarified.
Inside the EV5, drivers will find a trio of integrated screens, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 5-inch climate control panel, and a 12.3-inch infotainment display. Notably, the EV5 offers level 2 assisted driving capabilities, featuring tools such as semi-automated lane changing and intelligent remote control parking.
Kia, recognized for its generous warranty offerings, extends its commitment with the EV5 in China. The vehicle is covered for five years or 100,000 km (~62,137 miles), while the battery, motor, and electronic control system enjoy an extended coverage of eight years or 150,000 km (~93,206 miles).
The Kia EV5 is poised to expand its presence beyond China, with plans for availability in Canada, Australia, South Korea, and potentially Mexico. The anticipated launch on roads is set for 2024.
