ChargePoint, a player in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, has started its much-anticipated rollout of charging stations compatible with Tesla’s NACS connector in North America. The company anticipates a comprehensive lineup of AC and DC chargers with NACS support to be delivered within the coming month. Additionally, ChargePoint will be providing cable conversion kits for its existing DC fast chargers in November, aimed at customers who operate the charging stations.
This development marks the first time Tesla owners in North America will have access to a public DC fast charging option outside Tesla’s own Supercharger network. ChargePoint has already recorded more than 35 million AC charging sessions initiated by Tesla vehicles, underscoring the existing demand for more convenient charging solutions.
In an industry-first move, ChargePoint’s new native DC connector will be directly compatible with Tesla vehicles. This also means that AC charging at ChargePoint stations will be adapter-less for Tesla owners, providing a more streamlined experience.
For residential consumers, ChargePoint is set to release NACS-compatible cables for its popular Home Flex solution. These will be ready for installation in homes and garages later this month, further simplifying the charging process for Tesla owners.
The company’s decision to adopt the NACS connector indicates a significant step toward standardizing EV charging infrastructure, which is expected to benefit not only Tesla owners but the broader electric vehicle market.
