Fastned Bolsters Charging Infrastructure with Record-Breaking Expansion in Germany

Fastned, the fast-charging network provider, has made a substantial expansion to its charging facility at the “Seed & Greet” charging park in Hilden, Germany. The company has introduced five cutting-edge Alpitronic Hyperchargers to enhance its charging capabilities. Four of these new charging columns have been strategically placed between the existing HYC300s and Schüren’s bakery, while the fifth column is positioned at the far end of the row, offering convenient access for charging while towing a trailer.

This expansion effectively doubles the number of charging points available at the site, marking a significant milestone for Fastned. Notably, these are the first 400 kW chargers that Fastned has integrated into its extensive fast-charging network. With these additions, the Hilden charging park now boasts a total of 22 Fastned charging points, solidifying its status as the largest Fastned location in Europe. Additionally, Hilden hosts 40 Tesla Superchargers and a multitude of AC charging points, further enhancing its appeal as a charging hub.

Readers may have noticed the phrase “the first 400 kW chargers Fastned has installed in its entire fast charging network.” It’s worth clarifying that while Fastned inaugurated 400 kW charging columns from EVBox at the De Watering site near Oostzaan just before Christmas in 2022, that deployment served as a pilot project to test the Troniq Modular High-Power column. The five 400 kW Alpitronic chargers in Hilden represent the first of this power class to be in regular operation within Fastned’s network.

The 400 kW peak power capacity offered by the Alpitronic chargers is designed not for single-vehicle charging (as no series-produced European car currently supports 400 kW charging) but rather for simultaneous charging of two vehicles. The Hypercharger HYC300 enables parallel charging at 2×150 kW, even accommodating 400-volt models that may not consistently reach their maximum charging power. Meanwhile, the Hypercharger HYC400 facilitates parallel charging at 200 kW.

Linda Boll, Country Manager for Fastned Germany, emphasized the company’s commitment to staying at the forefront of the industry, offering customers an exceptional charging experience. She stated, “Expanding one of our flagship charging parks with the latest generation of Hyperchargers marks an important milestone for Fastned in this respect.”

Fastned’s investment in high-capacity charging infrastructure underscores its dedication to supporting the growing electric vehicle market and providing efficient and convenient charging solutions for drivers across Europe.
