Swiss eMobility Specialist Designwerk Introduces Electric Truck Line in Benelux Countries

Winterthur-based electric mobility specialist Designwerk has expanded its offerings to include a comprehensive electric truck lineup in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. This move marks the Volvo subsidiary’s strategic northward expansion, presenting customers in the Benelux region with a range of electric trucks tailored to various needs, from dump trucks to heavy-duty transporters.

Designwerk’s new market entry allows customers to select from a variety of truck models, spanning a weight range of 18 to 50 tonnes. These trucks are equipped with battery capacities ranging from 375 to 1,000 kilowatt hours, providing flexibility to suit different operational requirements. Notably, Designwerk has already established its presence in the German market since 2021.

Thomas Rücker, Head of E-truck Sales and Aftersales at Designwerk Technologies AG, expressed optimism about the market potential in the Benelux states. He cited the region’s advanced technological landscape, coupled with favorable societal and political conditions, as key factors contributing to this potential. Rücker highlighted the Netherlands’ commitment to energy transition and robust charging infrastructure, which reflects an environment conducive to electric mobility. He also referred to a 2022 Forbes study, positioning Luxembourg and the Netherlands among the top 10 most electric vehicle-friendly countries globally.

The responsibility for spearheading Designwerk’s expansion in the Benelux region falls upon sales and e-mobility expert Julian Rottier and his team. With access to the entire Designwerk portfolio, Rottier’s team is poised to offer an array of electric truck solutions. The offerings include articulated trucks, car transporters with capacities of up to 1,000 kWh, electric refuse collection vehicles, sewer cleaning vehicles, and specialized designs like a milk collection vehicle.
