Automobili Pininfarina, the renowned Italian automaker, has taken the wraps off its latest creation during the prestigious Monterey Car Week in California. Named the B95, this remarkable electric open-top supercar is set to capture the attention of an exceedingly exclusive audience.
Limited to a production run of merely ten units, the B95 hypercar represents a fusion of cutting-edge technology and opulent design. Scheduled for delivery starting in 2025, each unit will come with an awe-inspiring price tag of no less than 4.4 million euros, equivalent to nearly 5 million dollars.
Drawing inspiration from its electric GT super sports car counterpart, the Battista, which made its debut in 2022 and is also showcased at the Monterey event, the B95 derives its propulsion from a quartet of independent in-wheel motors. These motors collectively muster a peak power output of an impressive 1,400 kW, propelling the B95 from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere two seconds. The supercar boasts a top speed exceeding 300 kph. The heart of this performance lies in its T-shaped liquid-cooled battery pack, encased in a lightweight carbon fiber shell, with a storage capacity of 120 kWh. Moreover, it can be rapidly replenished with charging capacities of up to 270 kW.
The B95 offers five distinct driving modes, each adept at tailoring the power delivery from the four e-motors, in addition to orchestrating their harmonious interaction. Notably, the degree of torque vectoring can be finely adjusted, allowing for dynamic control over the car’s behavior during cornering. This innovation translates to enhanced handling, as the wheels on the outer side of a curve receive more power, bolstering the vehicle’s agility.
The nomenclature ‘B95’ is emblematic of the car’s essence: the “B” signifies the “Barchetta” body design, while “95” commemorates the anticipated commencement of deliveries in 2025 – a year of significance for the 95th anniversary of the esteemed Pininfarina design house. In Italian, “Barchetta” translates to a small boat, symbolizing the car’s purist intention: a minimalist haven for two occupants beneath a simple fabric roof. Enthusiasts might recognize the term from the iconic Fiat convertible, the Barchetta.
While the Pininfarina B95 aims to offer a back-to-basics driving experience, simplicity is juxtaposed with sophistication, evident in its unique electrical aeroscreen. This advanced polycarbonate windshield can be raised to enhance comfort or lowered for design aesthetics, showcasing the brand’s commitment to blending innovation and style.
Andrea Crespi, the Chief Technical Officer at Automobili Pininfarina, shared his insights, stating, “The Automobili Pininfarina B95 could have been created simply as an all-electric hyper Barchetta, however we wanted to make it so much more than that. The application of technology to create our adjustable aero screens is inspired by two-wheel motor racing – ensuring this is a pioneering road car. This patented new technology enables the pure thrill of open-top driving, yet in comfort even at the high speed that the B95 is capable to reach.”
As the automotive world eagerly anticipates the arrival of the B95 hypercar, it is poised to redefine the boundaries of performance, luxury, and exclusivity, solidifying Automobili Pininfarina’s position at the vanguard of innovation in the industry.
