In a sneak peek ahead of its scheduled release later this month, images of Kia’s forthcoming EV5 electric SUV have surfaced, offering a comprehensive view of the compact vehicle’s design and features.
First introduced in conceptual form in March, shortly after the debut of its flagship EV9 SUV, the Kia EV5 is set to make its mark as a smaller counterpart to the existing EV6, which stands as Kia’s inaugural dedicated electric car. Building on Kia’s “opposites united” design philosophy, evident across its lineup, the EV5 boasts notable style enhancements, such as the distinctive Digital Tiger Face at its front, an evolution from the brand’s iconic “Tiger Nose” grille.

Inheriting The Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform, which underpins notable EVs like the IONIQ 5 and EV6, the EV5 takes a divergent approach by adopting a 400V system, a departure from the 800V architecture, to cater to a more accessible pricing range. The base model is projected to surpass the EV6’s battery capacity of 77.4 kWh, reaching upwards of 82 kWh. A long-range variant is anticipated to offer an impressive range exceeding 600 kilometers (372 miles).
Recent reports from The Korean Car Blog revealed that the official unveiling of the EV5 is scheduled to take place at the Chengdu Motor Show in China, commencing on August 25. The report further outlined the starting price of the electric SUV to fall within the standard 50 million won bracket, equivalent to approximately $40,000. The extended-range edition is projected to commence at around 57 million won, approximately $42,600.
Coinciding with these developments, leaked images from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have surfaced, presenting the production form of the Kia EV5. Strikingly reminiscent of the concept model, the mass-produced version remains faithful to the prototype’s distinctive design, encompassing identical front and rear headlights, fundamental shape, and design nuances.

As production takes place in China, the Kia EV5 is destined for international markets. Featuring a robust 214 hp electric motor with peak torque of 310 Nm, coupled with an LFP battery for domestic models, the international versions will incorporate NCM batteries.
In anticipation of its imminent launch, the Kia EV5 electric SUV stands poised to showcase its innovative design, range capabilities, and alignment with the brand’s forward-looking electric vision. Automotive enthusiasts and eco-conscious drivers alike are eagerly awaiting the official debut to experience the harmony of modern design and sustainable technology.
