VinFast made a notable stride towards expanding its presence in the North American market as they broke ground for their inaugural U.S. electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Chatham County, North Carolina. This groundbreaking initiative is set to be the state’s first-ever electric vehicle facility and is poised to become its largest economic development project.
During the initial phase of development, an estimated investment of up to $2 billion will be allocated to construct an expansive facility spanning approximately 1,800 acres. The plant will feature five primary production areas, encompassing a body shop, a general assembly area, a press shop, a paint shop, and an energy center.
The primary focus of production at the facility will be on the VF 7, VF 8, and VF 9 models. With an ambitious vision, VinFast aims to achieve an impressive annual production capacity of 150,000 units. Moreover, the company has already set its sights on potential expansions for the future phases.
As per the proposed timeline, the plant is slated to commence production in 2025. Additionally, VinFast’s ambitious endeavor promises to establish an ecosystem of suppliers and generate thousands of job opportunities, providing a boost to the local economy.
Expressing his optimism, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper remarked, “This VinFast factory will create thousands of good-paying jobs in our state, along with a healthier environment as more electric vehicles take to the road.” These sentiments were mirrored by VinFast CEO Le Thi Thu Thuy, who emphasized the significance of the plant in solidifying the company’s commitment to the North American market. Thuy added, “We eagerly look forward to contributing to the development of the North Carolina community – our second home – during the production and business operation here.”
With this ambitious venture, VinFast takes a decisive step towards carving a prominent position in the American automotive landscape while fostering economic growth and sustainability in the region. As developments unfold, the automotive industry eagerly awaits the arrival of this pioneering electric vehicle manufacturing facility in North Carolina.
