California-based electric vehicle (EV) startup, Rivian, has released an enticing video on its official YouTube channel featuring one of its groundbreaking R1T pickup trucks equipped with the company’s cutting-edge Performance Dual-Motor setup.
The captivating video, displayed prominently on the website, takes viewers on a thrilling ride through the streets of New York. Potential customers and a handful of current Rivian owners are given the opportunity to experience firsthand the remarkable electric motor, meticulously crafted in-house by the company.
After five months of dedicated construction, the dual-motor setup commenced production at Rivian’s factory in Normal, Illinois, in February. By April, the facility had manufactured over 600 powertrains, with the majority destined for the updated Electric Delivery Vans created exclusively for Amazon.
However, Rivian’s focus also extends to its passenger vehicles, namely the R1T pickup and R1S SUV, both of which can be outfitted with the proprietary drive unit. The first R1T truck equipped with the Enduro unit proudly rolled off the assembly line in May, marking an important milestone for the company.
According to Rivian’s official website, the Performance Dual-Motor all-wheel drive option boasts an impressive 665 horsepower and an astonishing 829 pound-feet (1,124 Newton-meters) of torque. In addition, the R1T can tow up to a staggering 11,000 pounds (4,990 kilograms), while the R1S can manage up to 7,700 pounds (3,493 kg). Accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour can be accomplished in a mere 3.5 seconds, and the estimated range spans between 350 and 400 miles (563-643 km), depending on the battery pack and wheel configuration.
For those seeking a more accessible option, the base dual-motor AWD powertrain offers a commendable 533 horsepower and 610 pound-feet (827 Nm) of torque. On the other hand, the top-tier quad-motor AWD setup astounds with an astonishing 835 horsepower and 908 pound-feet (1,231 Nm) of torque distributed across all four wheels. The former provides four driving modes – All-Purpose, Snow, All-Terrain, and Towing – while the Performance variant adds a Sport Mode. Meanwhile, the latter incorporates an additional five modes: Rally, Drift, Rock Crawl, Soft Sand, and Conserve.
The Rivian R1T starts at a base price of $73,000 for the AWD setup with the smallest battery. Opting for the Performance trim adds an extra $5,000, while the Quad-Motor trim carries an additional price tag of $8,000 over the base model.
Rivian’s latest video showcasing the Performance Dual-Motor R1T has generated significant excitement among EV enthusiasts and potential customers, solidifying the company’s position as a prominent player in the ever-evolving electric vehicle industry.
